"Although I use video, photography and performance in my practice alongside painting I regard all my work as painting. A painting is a thought, because it is both an emotional and a philosophical pursuit. As a child I liked to make little shrines out of objects and bric-a-brac I found around the house. I remember finding some strange spheres in my aunt’s cellar and painting onto them with colours from my paint box. Although I was taught within a European tradition of abstraction I always loved surrealism.Today my work deals with patterns, colour and spheres, and the play between flat and 3D."

Alma Tischler Wood lives and works in London.
