Anita Gwynn works within the mediums of monoprinting and textiles. “I am interested in nature and am therefore influenced by the outside world around me. I am fascinated by nature in the urban environment; a seed will always germinate and a bird will find somewhere to nest. I enjoy flowers and enjoy drawing them from the bursting into life in spring and the dry seed-heads in autumn. I have been looking at the mythology and the folklore that surrounds flowers and herbs. I have also been drawing the birds that we take for granted: the pigeons and the starlings. They are birds that live in large communities like ourselves. The starlings seem to chatter all day long. I can imagine them talking about the mundane things in life.“ Working within these themes, Gwynn incorporates monoprinting and embroidery within a series of prints. Using dyes and a variety of papers, she explores her textile history; this has involved moving away from using fabric and concentrating on using different ways of exploring pattern and texture. |
