| The Wonderful Prokaryotes |
| An Installation by Dr Brian D Haddock |
| Exhibition dates: 25 June - 4 July 2010 |
This installation is a celebration of the fundamental chemistry of life through the Prokaryote and proposes its omnipresence throughout the universe. Potentially seeding the universe, the Prokaryote's collaborative nature has allowed the environment for life to evolve beyond our own cosmic back yard. The installation proposes the idea that these wonderful creatures are in abundance around other star systems through out the universe. |

The theme for next year is PEACE to coincide with this - "The United Nations General Assembly celebrates International Women's Day (8 March 2010) to recognize that peace and social progress require the active participation and equality of women, and to acknowledge the contribution of women to international peace and security". Artists are invited to submit work that is textile-based in a banner format (maximum size 2 x 3 m) that examines the theme of peace within the context of International Women's Week and women's involvement with Peace movements, activity and work. Innovative interpretations of the idea and concept are welcome. Applications are welcome from all sectors of the community. Work may be in the form of a collaboration or an individual piece. This exhibition takes the form of the Bayeux Tapestry. Artists are creating individual banners which will be linked in a continuous line around the gallery, It will celebrate the contribution women have made to peace initiatives around the world, thus parodying the great battle depicted in the tapestry and focussing on alternatives to the resolution of conflict. There will be a free workshop for young people to create a banner, which will be added to the display on Saturday 6 March, 13.00-16.00.
